New Bees in the hive

With new players and a new coach competing in a new league, it really is all change for the Bracknell Bees Ice Hockey team for the
2003/4 season.

The Bees’ season started with a Findus Cup game on 6 September and the first game of the Findus British National League (FBNL) took place in early October.

The team has been training under a new coaching duo who, although well established, are new to Bracknell. Mike Ellis, player/ coach, and Daryl Lavoie, player/assistant coach, have reformed the partnership they formed last season when they both played for the Basingstoke Bison but this time in a coaching capacity.

Mike knows the Bees well after a twoyear spell playing at the club from 1995 to 1997. He said: “This is a great opportunity for me
to further my career, both playing and coaching. Bracknell has a great set-up.”

He wasted no time in putting together a new team, including 16-year-old Mark Richardson on the Young Stars in Training apprenticeship scheme and GB International netminder Stephen Murphy.

Hotel is a good bet for last Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot 2004 will be a historic occasion – the racecourse is being developed and, therefore, in 2005 this famous meeting will
be held elsewhere. As a result, the Coppid Beech Hotel is pulling out all the stops to ensure a winning package for racegoers next
year.

For just £215 per couple per night, the hotel’s programme of entertainment for Royal Ascot week (15 – 20 June 2004) includes
luxurious accommodation, English breakfast each day; a top racing pundit on-hand to give his top racing tips each day, a glass of
champagne prior to departure and a wide variety of evening entertainment from which to choose.

And, transport to Ascot racecourse – which is only a few miles from the Coppid Beech – couldn’t be easier. The hotel has a limousine company on the premises and a free helicopter landing site.

And, for those just wanting to spend a day at the races, why not stop off at the Coppid Beech either on the way – for a Bucks Fizz breakfast – or on your return for dinner in Rowans, the hotel’s awarding-winning two AA Rosette restaurant?

It’s a busy time for Nike Design (Wales) as it has just embarked on an exciting new project. The company has been appointed to do civil and structural engineering for Persimmon Homes on a project that will see the development of a new housing estate comprising 78 flats and houses in Bridgend,Wales.

Construction work on the estate, which will be known as Ardwyn, started in September.

This year’s open day at John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell, will focus on the ski slope.

For one day only, beginners will be offered the opportunity to have a 20-minute tester lesson for just £2, rather than spending £40 on an hour-long individual lesson or £19 to join a group. The open day will take place later in the year.
