Players and supporters of
the John Nike Cricket XI are looking forward to a summer of what promises
to be the highest standard yet of competition.
The close season inauguration of two new clubs in the Bracknell &
District Evening Cricket League forced the creation of two divisions
for the first time. The John Nike XI finished second in last year’s
league – a fantastic achievement. This means it is the only companyrepresentative
team to make the five squad-strong top flight which is made up of
local cricket clubs.
Alan Connor, Team Captain and Manager of Leisuresport World, said:
“It will probably be a tougher season than before as the standard
of cricket should be higher than in previous years.”
All the team performances have improved from year to year, with John
Nike himself hoping to build on having topped the bowling averages
for the last two years.
Midweek league matches are played at cricket club grounds in the Bracknell
district (6pm start). The contest runs until the end of July but the
season does not finish then. The annual match between Bracknell Cricket
Club (of which John is the President) and the President’s XI will
be played on Sunday 7 September at the Bracknell ground.
