Web sites net huge hit rate

High tech Internet developments are continuing at top speed for the Nike Group of Companies.

Two new, major sites have been launched as part of the two-year programme to revamp the websites of all the Group’s operations by spring 2004.

The Bracknell Bees ice hockey team’s website (www.beesprohockey.com) went on-line in September and, for November, attracted a phenomenal 680,000 hits. Hamish Price, the Group’s Webmaster, said this figure compares to 30,000 to 50,000 - the average hit rate of a new website being launched on the Internet.

He commented: "Interest has been registered from all over the world but most hits have come from North America and the UK where the Bees have the largest fan base.

"The continual support of the team by fans has had a huge effect on the site usage. It is the aim of both www.beesprohockey.com and ALP to improve services even more in the future.

"We are very pleased with the site and expect its popularity to keep growing."

The first phase of the John Nike Leisuresport Limited website (www.jnll.co.uk) has also been a success since its November launch, said Hamish. Currently the site gives an overview of the company’s services and, by spring, it is hoped it will be offering information and booking facilities for the group’s individual ski centres and ice rinks around the country.

Hamish added:"The interest for this site has been extremely varied - from business inquiries to requests from students of, for example, sports sciences, who recognise the expertise of these locations."

The next connections will feature revamps of other Nike Group websites.

Llandudno backs tomorrow’s sports stars

John Nike Leisuresport, Llandudno, showed its commitment to the sportsmen and women of tomorrow when it sponsored the most improved sports person prize at the Conwy County Borough Council Sports Awards.

The winner was Katie Hemer, a member of the Great Britain Canoe Polo Squad, and her award was presented to her by Sarah Fitz-Gerald, world squash champion and Nigel Treacy, Unit Manager at John Nike Leisuresport, Llandudno.

Skiers jump at sales

Bracknell-based Leisuresport World has continued its run of pre-Christmas record-breaking ski sales.

The latest, at the Coppid Beech Hotel over two days in November, saw more happy customers than ever before walk away with special offers including ski wear and equipment for skiers and snowboarders, whatever their age or ability.

For the first time, a preview day was held the day before the main sale for loyal Leisuresport World customers on the company’s mailing list to come in and snap up the prize bargains. John Nike Leisuresport Limited also ran an exhibition stand during the sale.

As Connections went to press another sale was due to take place in early February.
