Bees and Tigers embark on winning campaigns |
|
In October, the basketball
season tips off and, with the British Basketball League merging its
divisions into one national league, Paul
James, Thames Valley Tigers Coach, is looking forward to competing
for honours in 2002/03.
Just four players have been retained from last season's squad and,
as Connections went to press, the signing of four top quality players
was imminent.
Paul said:"I am expecting a serious turnaround in the team's
fortunes:'

The Bees 15th anniversary season began in September and hopes for
success in this year's Superleague rest with some familiar faces and
some newcomers, taken on to strengthen the squad.
Among the new players who have signed up for the Bees is East Coast
Hockey League winger, Scott Kirton. He has a great track record, having
chalked up many goals and assists for teams including London Knights,
Dundee Stars and Pee Dee Pride.
Richard Cronk, Sponsorship and Media Relations Manager, from Bees'
management company,Arena Leisuresport Promotions (ALP), told Connections:
"This season is a special one for the Bees - we are celebrating
15 years of ice hockey in Bracknell. Nine players are
returning from last season and our new signings have been made in
areas of the team where Enio Sacilotto, Head Coach, felt needed
strengthening.
"The team is ready to face the challenge of the new campaign
with fire, passion and determination:"

John Nike Leisuresport races to the end of the season
 |
|
The ski race season is drawing to a close and several of the
John Nike Leisuresport Limited centres hosted major race events
this year.
Swadlincote, for example, held the Club National event for children
from all over the country in July. This involved over 350 children
competing across the weekend. Adam French, Head of Ski School,
said:"The races were fantastic and times improved throughout
the day- all the competitors pushed hard. The event was successful
thanks to great organisation from the Swadlincote Arrows - a local
ski race club. This weekend is always popular due to the friendliness
and quality of the ski centre and its staff."
The ski centre also has a big race event coming up on 27 October
when the East Midlands Ski Associations (EMSA) will visit.
John Nike Leisuresport, Llandudno, hosted some of the biggest
races in the country in the form of the Celtic Cup and the British
Ski Championships. Over 110 participants from across the UK and
Ireland competed during the two-day Celtic Cup in July and skiers
came from all over the world to take part in two days of slalom
racing at the British Championships on 14 and 15 September. This
was the first time in six years that the Championships have been
held in Wales and both events were successful with a high standard
of competitors.
Chatham entertained the English Ski Council for a Grand Prix event
involving 160 racers with entrants of all ages. Local children
are invited to join the John Nike Alpine Ski Club which can take
them from complete beginners all the way through to racing standards,
culminating in entering competitions across the south-east.
Lubo Kostov, Head of Ski School at John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell,
organised this year's Southern Region Ski Race and it had the
highest number of entrants in the history of southern region racing.
Local skiers enjoyed plenty of success - including Martin Bell
from Bracknell who won the under-nines race.
