Taking a modern look at training

Staff at John Nike Leisuresport, Swadlincote, are proof that John Nike Leisuresport Limited deserves the Investors in People accreditation that it was awarded at the end of last year.
Four employees are currently undertaking modern apprenticeships. Kate Humphries, Receptionist, is working towards an administration
qualification and her colleagues Philip Wilkinson, Ski Technician Team Leader, Lee Frost, Ski Technician and Bar Worker, and Claire Jones, General Assistant, are all in the process of studying for a customer service apprenticeship.
Both Modern Apprenticeship courses last 12-months and involve assessors coming into the centre to watch the candidates doing tasks, so that they can be evaluated in their working environment. They will also have to complete tests on key skills like maths, English and IT.
This is the first time that the centre has embarked on a training project of this kind. Vince Whitewood, Manager, said: "It will help
raise the profile of John Nike Leisuresport, Swadlincote. We are showing that we invest in our staff to enable them to improve their
skills."
