Charity fund raising takes off with Royal visitors

The Coppid Beech Hotel played host to some Royal visitors earlier this year, when Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones - the Earl and Countess of Wessex - attended a gala charity dinner organised by the Wokingham Lions Club.
The Hotel offered significantly reduced rates for the event, which was held to raise money for the Royal Berkshire Air Ambulance Service. The Nike Group also donated prizes for an auction held after the dinner - a weekend break for two at the Coppid Beech Hotel and use of a state-of-the- art Lexus SC430 car from Lexus Bracknell. The auction raised £12,000 for the charity.
As a result of the Group's generosity, John Nike OBE has been made an honorary Wokingham Lion.
After meeting members of the Wokingham Lions and Alan Blenkinsopp, Hotel Operations Director, the Earl and Countess extended their thanks to the Air Ambulance Service for the support given to them last December, when Sophie was airlifted to hospital while suffering from an ectopic pregnancy.
A similar event is already booked at the Coppid Beech Hotel for March 2003.

Continued >> A golden moment

John Nike Leisuresport Limited was represented well at the event, and staged mini basketball tournaments on the courts at Bisham Abbey between visiting - youngsters and members of the Thames Valley Tigers youth squad. The portable ski slope was also on display and a plastic ice rink was constructed so that visitors could have a go at skating. Around 12 members of skiing and skating staff were also on hand to chat about the facilities on offer at the six John Nike Leisuresport centres, up and down the country. The Queen herself also took time to visit the John Nike Leisuresport Limited area, escorted by John Nike OBE, Chairman.
The day culminated in the children putting on a display for the Royal party, including gymnastics, martial arts and music from local orchestras. Martin Weddell is Chief Executive of Arena Leisuresport Promotions, which manages the Nike Group's sporting teams, the
Thames Valley Tigers and Bracknell Bees. He commented: "It was a hugely successful event and the John Nike Leisuresport arena was well attended throughout the day. Young people were given a chance to try many different activities and, hopefully, we have created some new ski and skate fans as a result."

Jaz it up

On Friday 28 June and Friday 26 July, local jazz group, The Lynn Harrison Trio, will be playing from 7.30pm, throughout the evening, in Cygnetures Restaurant at The Swan At Streatley.
If you're a jazz fan, come along and relax while enjoying dishes from the hotel's new A la Carte menu. You can read more about this on page six.
