Graduate success

In the last edition of Connections, Tim Newton, Ice Rink Manager at John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell, spoke about the Nike Group of Companies' graduate training scheme, of which he is a result. A few months down the line, he has settled in to the position, and managed the successful pantomime, Alice in Winter Wonderland.
Tim is not the only success story from the graduate scheme. Three fellow graduates have also gone on to fill important roles within the Group.
Mark Morley has been promoted to work alongside Vince Whitewood at the Swadlincote ski and snowboard centre as Assistant Manager. Tim Moss is now Assistant Manager at john Nike Leisuresport Chatham, and Suzanna May's graduate contract at Arena Leisuresport Promotions (ALP) has been extended.
Sue Coffey Group Human Resources Manager, said: "Having completed our graduate trainee scheme, they now have a good grounding in the Group's business and know what they are letting themselves in for!
"They are all enthusiastic and motivated young people who have worked hard and made the most of the opportunity that was given to them."
The future looks bright for the scheme, as there are four graduates working on it at present and more will be taken on in the summer.
Daniel Gomm is at John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell, Helen Ambler is at Llandudno and Manna Hitchcock and Richard Hardyman are both at the Coppid Beech I Hotel in Bracknell. Richard took an unusual route onto the course. He is a former employee who left to study Environmental Studies and Information Technology (IT) at university. After graduating, he took a temporary position at the Coppid Beech Hotel while looking for a job. He was then offered a place on the graduate programme in IT, based at the Coppid Beech Hotel, with additional responsibility for The Swan at Streatley, the Nike Group's latest - acquisition.

Award success for Llandudno

It's been a busy few months at John Nike Leisuresport, Llandudno. The Ski and 5nowbaard centre was the proud sponsor of the Most Improved Sportsperson in North Wales award at the Conwy County Borough Sports Awards 2001.
The winner was judo ace Maxine Hughes from Conwy, who was presented with her award by Mark Hughes, former Manchester United footballer, and Graham Crossley, Assistant Manager at John Nike Leisuresport, Llandudno.
The centre has also introduced a new incentive to get schools more involved in skiing. The scheme, set up by Jason Jones, Head of Ski School, and Robin Kellen, from 5nowsport Wales, was introduced in the middle of January and means that children are taken from the level of complete beginner through to race training through a series of lessons.
Nigel Treacy, Manager, and his team are also gearing themselves up for several major events that will be held at the centre during 2002.The Celtic Cup, which is a series of four nations' races held at different ski centres across the United Kingdom, takes place on the weekend of 13 and 14 July and, in mid- September, the centre will play host to the British Ski Championships.
