Teams on track for success

Fans of the Bracknell Bees ice hockey and Thames Valley Tigers basketball teams are being treated to an exiting sporting season as both squads battle it out for supremacy in their respective leagues.
As Connections went to print, the Bees were lying second in the Sekonda Superleague and were due to play in the semi-final of the Challenge Cup against Belfast. Despite fitness at the beginning of the season the team has suffered injury problems but Enio Sacilotto, Head Coach, was still hopeful of a place at the top when the season finishes at the end of February.
The Tigers are also second - in the Southern Conference. After some indifferent performance, they have strengthened the team with two new signings - Martin Gottfried, who played with the club two seasons ago, and Carl Black, the first player to be selected through the Tiger's association with the Army Basketball Association.
After disappointment in the National Cup semis, as Connections went to print the Tigers were looking forward to their quarter-final clash with Milton Keynes Lions in the National Trophy competition in Coventry.
Ice Hockey games take place at John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell, while the Tigers can be seen in action at Bracknell Sports Centre. For tickets call 01344 789000 (Bees) or 01344 789008 (Tigers).

Alice and her team wow the panto crowds

John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell, presented the local community with its 14th annual Christmas pantomime on ice in December.
The production sponsored by 3M, was Alice in Winter Wonderland, a seasonal spin on the popular children's storey.
The ticket sales were the best for several years and the audience was treated to a magical show - with spectacular costumes and great skating - managed for the first time by Tim Newton, Ice Rink Manager.
Patrick Renn, Complex Manager, said: "The show was tremendous and I was delighted with the number of tickets sold, which was more than 60 per cent up on the previous year."
Alice herself was played by local girl Suzanna Dagger (right) who has been skating at Bracknell since she was five and hopes to compete in the British Championships later this year. She was joined by members of all ages from the Bracknell Ice Skating Club.
During the interval of the final performance, the audience was entertained by guest skaters, including Clive Shorten, former British Champion, who amazed them with a spectacular display of back flips. Before the show, John Nike presented a cheque for £2000 to Mrs Catriona Wroughton, President of the Bracknell branch of the British Red Cross, the chosen charity of the Nike Group of Companies for 2002.
